Ann Littlewood was a zookeeper at the Oregon Zoo in Portland, Oregon, for 12 years, working at the nursery with exotic and native mammals and birds, including a hippo, twin mandrills, eclectus parrots, pronghorns, servals, an orangutan, raccoon dogs, black tail deer, and harbor seals. She helped start a rehabilitation program for orphaned and injured owls which aided hundreds of birds.


Ann was a founding member of the Oregon Zoo chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers and is still a member. She coauthored articles in Primates (a scientific journal), International Zoo Yearbook (twice), and Animal Keepersí Forum (the journal of the American Association of Zoo Keepers).


Ann used to raise primates at home, but they both grew up and went away to college. Economic realities (keeping those juveniles in Legos and Nikes) led to a career in business writing. The zoo world kept its hold on her, and the Iris Oakley series is the result. Done with corporate America, she now focuses on mysteries and short stories. She lives in Portland, Oregon, with her husband and is active in the Audubon Society of Portland.
